There is one main type of porcelain crown that Dr. Bell prefers to use in most to all cases known as lithium dislocate … EMAX Impress is the “brand name.” The great thing about this type of material is not only does it have high strength, but there also is no metal to hide, which gives the crown a more attractive appearance and a natural look. We use this material mostly on molars and pre-molars, as well as front teeth. There are some rare cases where Dr. Bell will recommend a full gold crown for strength purposes for those of our patients who will be better served from one and where durability outweighs aesthetics. Dr. Bell always evaluates each case thoroughly and recommends what treatment he feels will suit each individual patient adequately.

Advantages

  • Very strong
  • No metal to hide
  • Attractive, natural appearance

Disadvantages

  • In rare cases, a full gold crown may be required to provide additional strength (the gold is more visible than the white porcelain).
  • The procedure is not necessarily uncomfortable, but it does take slightly longer than a simple cavity filling.
